*perks up head, waiting to have it cut off* I just don't think she's understanding the issue - I know I wouldn't if I hadn't been hanging here with you guys. forbidden to alter the image I think in her mind means exactly *not altering the file* - like not drawing on it or anything - the file isn't altered, only the way it shows up. See what I mean. I don't think biting her head off is a good response to it, honestly :0) Better try to explain why you as an artist feel the way you do. Love and peace ~L~

Good point. I'd not though of seeing it from that perspective.

LadyL brings up a good point, I don't think she fully understands what she's done and why it is upsetting some people. She didn't alter the image in her mind: she didn't flip or rotate it, she didn't recolor it, she didn't draw on it... and she's not trying to redistribute it, and she said that she provided a link? So I don't think that she thinks shes breaking any rules.
Honestly, I'd be pretty pissed if someone resized my art to make an icon, however at the same time I'd feel kinda proud that some one liked my art enough to make it their avatar. So I'd just tell them to find a different icon, however I'm glad they like the art....
Hopefully she'll take it down, but if she doesn't and refuses to listen, then by all means, through the law at the girl...

I do agree with Rhay or LadyL. she didn't do anything against the rules. well thats just me. but she should ask permission first. she's really not that bad. I've seen her post.

well, she did break the rules, she altered the image. However, I don't think she knows what she's done is wrong.

Okay so everyone on the CP who even knows who Shirley is has been through these sorts of tiny battles a million times in the last 6 years. Honestly, it gets tiresome and a bit old after six years of searchign the net for everyone who might be misusing graphics. So, Im sorry if you think we're all big jerks when we didn't jump out of our seats and turn green with rage that some random kid using one of shirley's graphics as an avatar.
Sure, if I had made the graphic and came across this I would ask the person to take it down because they do not have permission to use it that way and the page doesnt allow for it to be viewed in all its glory.... but, its not like they're editting it themselves and trying to adopt it out as their own work or something like that. Power to you, that you want to get this taken care of and whatever.. I'm just tired of these sorts of wars. If it was the work of an active adoption agency it'd be different, I might actually want to do something like telling the artist about it and letting them deal with it.
Anyway, its great there are people ready to stand up for other artists and Im not trying to tear you down for it... not at all. I'm just a little dissapointed that you'd be spreading rumours around other forums about how the members of the Crystal Palace are all big jerks who are rude to everyone who wants to stand up for fellow artist's rights... thanks so much for your support. I'm sorry we've all matured since the Cyberpet theft witch hunts of the late 90s. If you don't like us so much to say mean things like that about us, maybe you'd be happier not being a member of the Crystal Palace, yourself.

Oh Gawd, isn't this Thread DEAD Yet? It was Dealt with, Enough. Let the issue blow over.
And for those of you who are very nicely trying to see it from the girl's point of view about it being okay to resize an adoptable graphic for an avatar. You have a point HOWEVER, the point is even if She didn't see it as wrong. It is wrong. End of Discussion. And she wasn't blasted, people pmed her nicely and as far as I know she's probably taken it down by now.
And while plenty of us can be plenty tired of the drama drama drama that is a part of the artistic communities no matter where one goes. It doesn't mean we can start Slacking over defense against theft, mis-use, and copyright infringement. Although let's not lynch or go on witchhunts either. Keep it reasonable.
Storm feels things very strongly she was frustrated, she didn't mean you make you people out to be jerks, so please excuse her strong feelings and words about it.
Please pm, or email Storm directly if you have beef with her about this issue instead of posting it here as requested by the guidelines of this board.

I heard back from the girl on my offer of a different icon, and she's just geniunely confused as to what the problem is or what rule she might be breaking. She was very nice about it, and said that even though she didn't quite understand, she's willing to change the icon if that's what people want.
You'll have to excuse her for being slow to respond though--I get the impression that the account in question is not her only account nor is it her main one, and I don't think she logs into it very much.
And yes please, if there are any personal problems left to be resolved let's take them to PM's or other private means of communication.

Yeah, I'm not surprised. There aren't exactly alot of clear and concise explanations of copyright for all to understand and the fact is that different communities and agency owners have different rules and feelings about different things. Some have no problem allowing modification and editing of their works for certain things while others are very strictly against any kind of editing.
Therefore it is easy to be confused about it all. Best thing would be to tell her that unless it says somewhere explicitly that it is okay to use adoption graphics for icons and avatars, she shouldn't. And if the artist is reachable, to ask permission. If the artist isn't around and the site is down then it would be safe to assume that the graphics are off limits beyond staying on their adopters' webpages.
