I'm definitely interested. My college minor is East Asian studies and I am almost at the end of my freshman year. I intend to take Japanese next year but I might not be able to. Weirdly, it doesn't seem to be a part of East Asian studies. However, I think knowing Japanese would be important considering my minor. My major is Professional Writing. I've been looking at classes and putting some books on order at Amazon. I'd LOVE to learn some Japanese over the summer before I start school again especially since I might not be able to take Japanese as anything other than an elective. If I can test out of some classes I'll have more room to progress in the language.

yatta! ^^ i'm so excited.
so, basically, i'm trying to decide how to do this. i have specific books that i learned out of that have really done well by us. also, my bro-in-law has a ventrilo server (( if we have less than 8 ppl in all )) that he has given me leave to conduct courses over. ^^
so! i think needful materials would be japanese for busy people I (( textbook )), kana workbook (( part of that series)), and headphones so you can talk over the server too. debating about the workbook. . . . <<; hhrrmmsss. . . .

Okie dokie. I'm not sure where to get the headphones. Do you know where they can be obtained? The books shouldn't be a problem once you decide about the work book.

Just to clarify, you mean headphones with a microphone, correct? And now you're thinking, "She so dumb! How can I teach her anything?"

anou. . . . . . . i think i might know wot you were trying to say. . . ^^;;;;;; hehe right-o, these are the books i'll be using: www.amazon.com/gp/product/4770018827/ref=pd_ys_ir_all_1/102-5433878-4441735?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155if you scroll you can see a package with the textbook and the kana workbook. the only thing i can't seem to find is the regular workbook, but maybe i can just draw ya'll picture's. xD you will also need headphones with a mic so we can talk over ventrilo or teamspeak. ^^ i'm not quite as good as a native speaker, so if you have a way to listen to real japanese ppl speaking real japanese it will help you a lot. otherwise, i'll see if i can get our vcr to work and maybe tape ya'll some random tv shows. xD

Wow, sounds really interesting. I'd like to join in, but I probably wouldn't have the time. Would have been neat to be able to watch anime or read manga in their original languages without subs. Then when my parents joke about my understanding it I can say "Of course!" Any websites you could point a complete beginner to that might be useful? Obviously I wouldn't be able to learn pronounciations without hearing someone speak, but even just some basics would be nice. Or would that workbook you posted be ok without someone guiding you through it?
