I've been thinking of starting a gods and goddesses RPG. It would take place in a Slavic country, maybe Russia, or I might just make one up. At this point in time there are many gods and goddesses around and they each have an element they are in charge of. There won't be the four basic elements as will be explained in the creation story, but there are smaller elements so to speak, like the element of river instead of water. Then there can also be less concrete things like the element of laughter. I think power might actually be a better word, but I hope I'm getting the idea across either way. Also each god(dess) would be represented with a totem animal. The god(dess) could turn into this animal along with some other possible powers that still have to be determined.
The god(dess) would also be able to turn into a human. However, they must always have one characteristic that either stays the same or is distinctive, for example green eyes. No matter what human form they take they must have the green eyes, the catch is that no one else knows what that characteristic is. Like if a character always short and has green eyes, no one could really say what was the distinctive quality. Also another character's distinctive quality can be imitated to try to confuse.
More interesting is the fact that each god(dess) would have a clan of people, maybe 20 to start with. A main idea of the game is to try to make a powerful clan. This includes training your people. Now there will be some that are warriors by nature and probably some drunkards (like in every culture). Now there will be points that can be used for training or whatever and these can increase a person's skills. There will be witches in this game and a similar points system would be used. Also, a god(dess) could try to get members of other clans and unaffiliated people to join their clan. This can be done in various ways, but part of the fun is trying to figure out what would work best.
This might not seem hugely like the Slavic culture, however I am going to incorporate parts, like some of the creation story. Also I might use a little bit of the history at the time too. Most importantly I will try to keep balance. This was very important. For example I'm planning that the two sides so to speak would be separated by whether they wrote with their right or left hand. Also, once a god(dess) was created an equal and opposite one would be (like making a hearth fire god(dess) for a stream god(dess)). These wouldn't not be as active until someone else decided to take the element and make a character.
Anyway, in the technical aspects I would use a database and everything to display the points and keep track of the people. There would be human characters (main ones like powerful witches and captains) as well as the general clan. Other than that it's pretty free range.
Please tell me what you think and if you'd possibly be interested. At the moment I'm trying to figure out whether this is worth doing.
