Okay, so today I thought, "Hmm, I feel like starting a new story..." Now, this usually means I go adopt a growing and changing adoption and write around it. You know the type: has multiple stages, and its color/type/etc. can be affected by your story/character/environment. It was a pretty popular format with dragons especially. (If you still aren't sure what I'm talking about, check out the creatures in the stories here: refuge.indyslair.net/library.htm ) So, I go visit the dragon adoption agencies I know of... only to find that most of them haven't been active in the last year or more. So then I search on Google, on the directory projects, and on Bearjest's and Megangirl's cyberpet links. One hour later... The only three I found were Bishen Realm (mine, so that doesn't count lol), Temple of Dea (Clarus Dragons, already writing on one at the moment), and Etea Arena (not quite the same thing, but writing involved at least... not updated since November 2004). So, I ask you, where did the growing and changing adoptions go? Does anyone know of any agencies that still require applications, persona and/or stories to develop their creatures? Looking for creatures that aren't roleplay-required, since I don't have time to get involved in another roleplay. I prefer to put my time into writing... Gah, I feel so old and out of touch. -_- The face of cyber pets is changing, and I don't like it one bit. *sulks and acts like old fogie*

Ditto. On everything. ;.; *is the reason she leapt headlong into the Bishen Realm when she finally got the chance* ^.^;
Actually, I have some writing-involved agencies, but the reason they're not active at the moment is 'cause of such little interest. x.x; Seems that nowadays, people just want the pretty images and want to put as little effort into actually taking care of them as possible.
I'm no exception, I must admit. *guilty* But I'm trying to slow down adopting for a while 'till I can flesh out the critters I have.
But anyway, if there is any interest.. any at all.. *peers at Indy hopefully* ..I'd be more than happy to either bring back my old agencies, or even just do one or two as the interest arises and work from there. All of them were changing, customized adoptions. ^.^; Runners (large, carnivorous K'd-type critters), Sira (my babies, the dominant species on my planet) and Suva (large, peacekeeping dragons) are the main ones that have either died due to lack of interest in storywriting, or never even gotten off the ground because of it.
*hopeful mrr?*

Uny, I /live/ to write stories. lol I am in desperate need of more creatures to work into my stories, so if you start any of your critters back up, I'm the first person you should call. But be careful, because once I start, you can't get rid of me... ask Kari. *points to her Clarus Dragons* ;D

*!* *GLOMP!* Seriously? You'd write for my critters? *cling*
...would you be interested in a Sira? Or possibly a Suva? (translation: would you have my child? XD!) Need examples? Your wish is my command! *far too eager, but doesn't care, 'cause nobody's offered to write for her critters in........... a long time* ^.^;;;;;;
(Proph: ~Oh, now you've done it. Now you'll never escape.~) (Qui: Yeah, watch it Indy, she means it when she says that...) ;D!!!

knux.helephant.com/forums/index.php?act=idxThey exsist. They THRIVE. Just in another corner of the cybperpet world.. Dragonry agencies. Some pern-based, some different dragons. Bonding, writing canidates, flight and hatching stories. Some people write frelling 4-5 pages just for one canidate! And they do it over and over... *pokes Uny* They'd LOVE your dragons, even if they don't bond. (They'd love them even more if you let them interbreed. You know the changes I'm doing? It's all their fault.) Personally, I'm no writer. I can't write that well (I accually just uploaded and sent a canidate in: www.edgeofshadows.com/ShadowEdge/Nexus/Soulsinger.html Yes...that's a leagus. They're allowed.) I'm in it for the pretty pictures--and knowing my adopting record, most of you should know that means drawing the pretty pictures. ^.^'''

I totally miss growing/changing adoptions. I never liked creating personas specifically for adoptions, though, since I liked to have everything interconnected and I liked just playing as myself.
Yeah, I started adopting when I was fifteen, slowed down when I was eighteen or nineteen, came back to it now that I'm 22 and am going, "Wow, things are different."
I would be all over the chance to go old school with growing adoptions. Indy, I had to have some alone time when I saw your Bishen dragons. XD Just kidding. Almost.

Uny: Duuuuhhh! I'd definitely write for you! Um, examples are good, but honestly, I would take whatever you feel like drawing. XD Some background information on the species would probably make it easier for me to write though.
Myr: *twitches at mention of Pern* Arg, yes, I do know about those... I just get annoyed at them because it's usually the same story (oh no, planet in danger from outer space, need dragonriders to fight it, dun dun dun!). They basically took someone else's dragon species instead of making their own. *facepalm* But I guess there might be a few that aren't totally Pern out there that I've overlooked, so I will check it out. Thanks for the link, Myr!
Tiirana: Not quite what I was looking for. ^_^; Although those do require applications, their growth can't actually be affected by what you write on your page in most cases.
L: *stalks her* Close to giving into that urge to steal an egg... as soon as I get this new story going... lol But I would love to see the website actually open, since I haven't read the info for them in forever.
Dawby: Yeah, I'm about the same age, and I used to write tons of stories, then I had to bring down the number while I was in college, and now that I'm out, I'm looking for more writing to do and going, "But... where did they all go? ;_;"

Well, I don't think there were many growth-determined-by-writing agencies out there to begin with. Most of the canidate-based agencies had the same image they used. I think your Glenn dragons were the first I saw. Most of them, dragonry and genetic/unique adoptions, just had the creature grow. Period. Some of them just have an adult stage.
What they focus mostly on is the writing aspect. And I've seen some...interesting canidates. You should have seen some of the Bipedra selection.

As for where they all went...perhaps there wasn't enough adopters to mess with trying to stay open. Or perhaps they too had Real Life take over, so they no longer had the time.
Or perhaps they just gre out of it. It happens sometimes.

*noodles* Even worse are the stats pages. No text, no nothing. I just can't bring myself to stick a critter on a page without some kind of textual interaction.
One reason why there are fewer agencies with growth stages is that those who used to have all that free time in high school to draw several stages, now work and can only do the adult stage. Same goes for people having time to write pages. I've just reopened my Windskrae without growth stages mainly because I don't have time to draw them, they take me ages. And no one would accept "duplicates" they all have to be unique now. I used to draw a set of stages and then hand out 10 copies of them, but people don't want that anymore. In the end, I'll probably be drawing even more than when I did have the stages.
And forget click-and-takes. Unless they're breedable, no one has any interest, though I used to write pages even for those.
It's all about the pretty pictures now. If your critter isn't a great piece of work people tend to turn away. I used to adopt just about everything I came across...even some pretty poorly drawn crits. Now I don't have the time I used to, so I tend to stick with a few specific agencies that bring up old memories, only rarely starting up with a new one. And yet on the other hand, for the very same reason, when redrawings are offered, I often don't accept. I've grown too attached to the original image.
Although the Windskrae have bonds...maybe for my next contest I could have a writing one. Where the resulting Windskrae will be somehow influenced by the story...interesting idea.
Kinda miss those old Pern agencies, though I doubt I'd start up again with those.
Ah the memories...yesterday was my birthday (27) so I'm feeling kind of reminiscent of when I got involved in all this...about 7 years ago? Wow.
