I used to put my art up on Elfwood, but I got fed up with waiting weeks for my art to be posted and then dealing with all of the rules... *shrugs* Managing my gallery myself would be the death of me, but I'd take that over Elfwood.

This is precisely why I wasn't very gung ho about posting any of My stuff on DA. I was asking around about it and the more I heard the less enthused I was about it. I realize none of my stuff is on par with you guys but still... I'm a tiny little hermit crab who prefers to Keep the shell on my back rather than have somebody arbitrarily decide they can live in it instead. *has a picture of a wolf trying to cram herself into a tiny seashell then snapping at somebody for trying to point out wolves don't Live in shells in the first place* >>;

It would be nice if that person specified who exactly it was that told them that stuff's only on the servers for 6 weeks (rather than just saying 'someone in charge'), but if it's true then yay! Means that when I rip my gallery down, I'll be feeling very relieved after 6 weeks have passed XD I do believe I will be posting all future art on my personal website, under a Creative Commons license. Anyone else interested in the license (which grants the copyright holder rights over attribution, whether or not the work can be used for profit, and whether or not it can be used in derivative works) should check out this website: creativecommons.org/

I thought about it for a while. However, if dA really wanted to stick our art on t-shirts, they might have done so a LONG time ago. Honestly, I'll be sticking there until either 1) this stuff is actually proven to be true, or 2) when they actually start using these loopholes to their advantage. I'm thinking about switching domain names, and once I get my site all done I'll be sure to put a CC thing on it. Thanks for sharing that with us, Sky.

I think I'll stick with DA. I keep changing my mind, but the fact the it allows for the comments and it gives more exposrue than a personal website would. If DA really was going to 'borrow' people's work, it would spread like wildfire around the entire site and everyone would leave. DA makes the money through people subscribing to it. It would be stupid if DA did do anything to the artists on the site. I remember reading ages ago - I wish I had kept the link - that the 'loopholes' which had been spotted there were to allow DA: - to display the works and give it lince to use the art for deviantMOBILE,
- to allow it to be displyed on the comp screen.
- to display the works on phones for people to surf the 'net on them
- to allow the people to hook up their T.Vs to their comps to see the works (instead of a monitor which most of us use),
- It also allows for the rights to print the work for the prints wich DA offer. (I'm not sure the ammount of proffit the artists get, but I'm sure they do, why would so many use them if they did not?)
It needs thoes rights to be able to avoid a lawsuit Added:It would also need the rights to manipulate the images for works submitted in jpeg and other files to create the thumbnails. Keeping the work on the server for 6 weeks sounds more reasonable than for ever as it needs the server space. Time must be allowed for them to clean out the deleted work (done by human or program I don't know). I doubt they would keep it forever. Keeping this in mind I think I'll stick to it. I will be keeping an eye out for rumers however. There are my views on the issue anyway. It is really up to the individual however. If I find the link to where I found the info I will post it. As I find more I'll post it here.
