omg... Heresy!! The Evil Dead Trilogy is my absolute favorite as far as horror goes. And Evil Dead (the first one) was made for a few thousand dollars by a bunch of college kids who rented a cabin in the woods for a few months to make the movie on summer break. Yeah, the effects aren't impressive compared to nowadays, but for little twenty-year-old Sammy Raimi (waay before Spiderman) and his baby brother Teddy (of Xena fame as Joxer) and their buddies (including my hero, Bruce Campbell) doing it all alone with just props and camera tricks, it's pretty impressive in context. And Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness are hysterically funny and very tongue in cheek, especially if you like puns.
