Conrad decided on an aquarium for his birthday, and we've been having lots of fun picking out fish to go with it. We saw some "Mixed Fruit Tetras" at one local store and were seriously considering getting some, but I decided to look them up on the internet first. I found this article: freshaquarium.about.com/cs/beginnerinfo/a/paintedfish.htmIt's so sad that people would to that to poor innocent little fishies. I'm definately not going to buy any now--I don't want to support cruelty like that. >:[ Anyways, I thought I'd at least try to do my part and warn you guys here. I certainly never would have suspected the truth when I was looking at those poor "fruit" tetras in the store.

That's so terrible. I hate it when people torture animals. I'll be careful on which fish to buy when I can actually get them ^^;

thanks for the heads up Silv. I'll stick to Betas if I ever get fish then, as they're not on that list.

Grrr... I hate cruelty to animals in anyway. I hate the human race in general, due to the things they do, and overpopulation as well. Humans just kill off 'pests' which they brought to places they weren't suppose to, but humans are the biggest pest in the world. All that just to make a poor fish colourful. I'm glad that the RSPCA wouldn't allow that kind of stuff to happen in Aus.

hmm... for some reason, that does not supries me too much, people do that sort of thing all the time, not just colouring fish, but to everything. From racehorses and drugs to the cows that go to make burgers...
Cruelty is a part of human nature and I loath every bit of it.

Its not much difference from pet stores trying to make money selling mutts... yup you heard me... MUTTS. I saw a pet store here selling a PURE BREED! shi zu/pekinese mix for around 400 Cad$. On another store I saw a labrador/poodle mix.. the ever popular labradoodle ( SICK), for around 600 C$ Its just ridiculous.. why pay money for a mutt?!... And a dog that probably is unhealthy too. I have also seen kittens with seven or more toes on each paw for sale in pet shops.
And people buy them!!!
*sigh*
I am done ranting now....
I want a doggie... maybe a pug.

Its just ridiculous.. why pay money for a mutt?! I paid the adoption fee for my mutt. Granted, it was only a few bucks, but she's worth millions in my mind. (If I had to choose to sacrifice either my father or my dog, I'd choose Popcorn, even though she's seven years old and will probably only be around for a few more years.) I like her far better than my AKC registered german shepherd that I paid $250 for and ended up giving away. The only reason I would ever own a purebred dog is for competitions; I like agility and AKC trials are open to registered purebreds only. So... I'm one of those people who would pay money for a mutt. Good money, even. Just call me crazy.

Adoption fee and paying great sums of money at at pet shop are not the same thing.

I think what Lady Crow is getting at is that in our day, if you bred a Lab and Poodle, it's Not a purebred. It's a mutt. Now as she says, they're saying it's a Purebred Labrapoo so they can get more money out of it. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, I see LOTS of pet stores with pommie/poodle mixes and they're trying to sell them for $300-$400 ugh.

*nods*
It's so dumb. I don't know how they can dare to say that's a purebred. A + B does not equal pure A or pure B. It's a mix == mutt!
BTW Lex, read the four Howling stories. Loved 'em to death and can't wait for more!
