I saw it twice. Once with my friends and once with my family. I have to say that I actually thought it was brilliant. There were points when I thought the movie was fairly long but overall I'd definitely give it a thumbs up. It's a good entertaining "ride" with plenty of kick butt action and clever bits of humor.
I wasn't really a fan of how they ended up devloping Davey Jones and his gang but I'm just being picky there. I think that the three way duel was a fantastic bit of action. I thought the scenes with the island natives and Jack attempting one of his escapes which somehow goes right after going horribly awry was nice and funny.
Frankly, I'm glad that Mr. Depp took this role and stuck with it. The movie series would not be the same without his clever and unique handling of the character of Jack. Sure it put him in the way of fangirls but that's expected to come with the job. I have no regrets what so ever. He's definitely more than just comedic relief. He has a dark side and a dubious heroic side that unfortunately leads to an ending that had me completely gobsmacked.

Johnny Depp made me sad inside by continuing to do this ;_; I mean, nobody else could ever play such an amazing Jack Sparrow, but... Johnny is normally the one taking all the unpredictable, undesirable, and unconventional roles in the strangest movies he can find. I admired him for that so much, the fact that his TV show fandom made him anti-fangirls and anti-teen dream hunkmaster. He didn't want to be a piece of meat to be flaunted around on a screen... but ever since PotC... well, I can name a lot of fanclubs that have started up. I'm guessing he expected Jack Sparrow to be a lot less appealing when he initially took the role, and it just didn't work out that way. Actually he said the reason he liked doing these movies is because its something his kids can watch ^^ So I'm thinking that's what he's been thinking for POTC. I feel the same way you do, about him taking unusual roles and not wanting to be a piece of meat, but I think it was more of a 'my kids will love this character' kind of thing ^___^ I thought it was great. Not quite as good as the first one (and Keira Knightley's character was sooo OUT of character and annoying. 'Oh, one minute I'm screaming and OMGZ and the next hey! I can fight and beat the bad pirates and WHOO') But I thought the special effects were good and of course, Jack Sparrow <3 And mm Norrington looked pretty nice all scruffy and piratey >.>

And that Legolas-esque move where she tucked the two swords under her arms to stab the two pirates behind her.. le sigh ._.

I saw an interview on TV the other day while channel surfing, and Orlando Bloom was on, and he was saying something along the lines of...how much of an honor and stuff it is to be involved with such a huge movie and everything, and I'm thinking to myself: "Um. Did you forget about LOTR already? o.O"

Did you forget about LOTR already? o.O" I had the exact same thought! Apparently Will taught Elisabeth how to use a sword but I definitely don't see how she could have become so accomplished at it. She took out the villians like she'd been sword fighting all of her life, not like she'd just been practicing at off times during the past year or so.

She must have become an expert while making wedding arrangements.
I personally like Orlando better in LOTR...not that I'm a big fan of him, or LOTRs.

Yeah. Orlando isn't that great of an actor. He was much better playing Legolas where his job was to stand around and look pretty ^^;
ROFL. "You call this a wedding cake? *CHOP,CHOP*"

ROFL. "You call this a wedding cake? *CHOP,CHOP*" Ehehehe, funny images in my head. I agree with the fighting thing with her... a little sudden, there. However, I must say, I LOVE the romance... square. Thing.

Haha. When she was kissing Johnny I was thinking to myself: "mm there's a scene I'd purpously screw up so we'd have to do it over and over again.."
