Okay, so recently over on Gaia Online I've been having troubles with one user in particular. Back in January, she and I had a falling-out and basically agreed to pretend one another didn't exist and I abandoned roleplaying in her shop entirely to avoid static. Aside from occasionally ranting about her to friends of mine, I've made no effort to contact her or anything of the sort. I even go so far as to avoid threads she's recently posted in.
Now while I was still participating in this shop, I had piped one of my older characters in through her adoptable critters. Basically I just nipped and tucked him here and there to fit the restrictions and made my own little offshoot of him to play with on Gaia.
He was a custom, I might add...I dictated to her his appearance and personality while she contributed small things (she added markings and a little deviation to his hairstyle). Having abandoned her roleplay, I took him back as an OC and stripped him of anything having to do with her so he'd be mine again.
Bear in mind, please, that this character existed pre-Gaia, and was simply made into an adoptable for fun. She has recently discovered that I intend to keep playing this character in my own private RP journals (with no reference to her, or her shop, or any of her artwork) and has gone utterly ballistic. She has gone so far as to say that she will claim copyright over him.
I've continued to ignore her, hoping she'll give it up and leave me to play with my own brainchild in peace. I've spoken to a Gaia mod about her who sides with me on the issue.
So now she's telling all who'll listen that I organized some sort of conspiracy against her (because, you know, I really have nothing better to do with my time except devote it fully to making someone's life a hell that I don't even really KNOW that well ). Her defense of this idea is the fact that after I left her RP, several people went with me. I did not ask them to, I didn't even announce ahead of time that I was going, but since their characters were heavily involved with mine in some way, they really saw no reason to stick around. After they left, the RP in general began to decline due to the most active RPers being gone and the shopowner's general bad attitude. But rather than focus on making her shop a better place and moving on, she's decided its easier to blame me for it.
So basically I'm left sitting here wondering "What the f***?" at this point. I was unaware that simply making an incarnation of a character for one shop meant that you were never ever allowed to play with that character or his concept again. In fact, I don't think I remember that being a written rule ANYWHERE. I never signed a contract granting her rights, I'm not using any of her artwork, he's undergone a drastic appearance change, so...unless she really thinks she can lay claim to the concept of "pale skinny man with long black hair and green eyes", I'm not terribly worried. Just friggin annoyed.
Yeah, I'm sorry....I just really needed to get that off my chest and nobody's online for me to talk to at the moment. >_<
