I'm having trouble getting clean outlines around my images after making them transparent. They're either pixelated or there's a thin white outline around the border.
Anyone have tips or tricks to make smooth, transparent images? I'd really appreciate it. ^^
I use Photoshop CS.

I pixel clean the outlines of mine. I haven't found any quick way to do this.

Definitely don't have the time or patience for hand pixel cleaning. o.O Thanks, though! ^^

I don't know for your particular program, but in Paint Shop Pro, I use the bucket/fill tool to fill the background various shades of grey/white/whatever colors are being left around the borders, with the "tolerance" setting between 10-30. I start with white at a rather high tolerance setting, and vary the tolerance and color depending upon what color pixels are left around the borders. Then, when I'm pretty sure most are gone, I fill the background with a really dark color to see which ones are left, and clean those out by hand. If you want it to have no stray pixels, you're gonna have to do at least a little cleaning by hand.

*concurs with Cynth* i generally do all of my final .gif cleaning in psp 7.0. the colours themselves will sometimes get a little pixellated, but i generally get very nice outlines. not perfect, but pretty good. ^^

Yea.. In case no one's noticed, my foxflii's outlines are really choppy... I just think it's something GIFs do to cut down on the color limit (GIFs can onl have so many different colors, so when you save them, it changes all the grey ends of your outlines to black, making the outer edges way icky). I haven't figured out how to fix it, short of hand cleaning, as the others said... Sorry.

one way to have less is to go into your levels options, and make the outline darker. That way there's more black to begin with.

Well, if you go to save for web, like I do, and where it says "matte" change it to Black, not none. Try that.

Lessa: Yeah, I already do that, and it helps, but not all the way.
DSL: Haven't tried that yet, thanks! Hopefully it'll work. Otherwise today I discovered that just using the "Save as" option automatically adjusts the settings and gives the best result.
