Hello! I'm Jenn. I know that theOrchardpost is still one of the main places that people go to see news on cyberpets and the like, so I thought I should post this here for others to see. Recently, Sushidragon/Skysong of the Samanayr adoptables had me create a database for all of her Sams. She only opened it to the public last night and there are probably still a few bugs to work out, but we're very proud of what's there. Owners are able to register for an account and keep all of their Samanayr and Song records updated on the little site in addition to wherever else they keep them. sushi-dragon.com/sotr/database.phpShe's still in the middle of entering older Samanayrs and IDing them, but they're all slowly appearing and she's always looking for help in locating 'lost' Sams. I'm sure some of the records need editing, especially the 'Current Song', which is unentered for many Sams at the moment. For more recent updates on the species, members should probably follow either the Samanayr forum or follow Sushidragon on Pony Island. She posts regularly to both places, though the forum is really 'the place' to be. sushi-dragon.com/sotr/forum/index.php

Also to throw it out there, breedings are currently open for signups on the forum until sometime tomorrow, the second! =^_^= So whether you have Sams to breed or you use an Open Song, if you wanted a Sam, this is the time to try for one!

Cool~ I don't adopt from Samanayrs, but I sometimes lurk at the forums and look at all the pretty animals there. Would it be possible if you told me how to make a place where I can hold info about stuff and people be able to search for those things? I have a database, I just don't know how to use it xD

Ahh. xD Well, if you're looking to do it offline then getting a database program like Access and learning how to use its queries works well. If you're doing it online, you have to either learn or find someone who knows the coding languages to make it possible, like PHP and mySQL.

I know PHP, and I know how to use mySQL, I just don't know the proper code for it. I'm very new to PHP, but I know most of the basic things.

Ooh, I see. That does make it a touch easier. I'm not sure how to advise you to get started... I learned the two languages minimally from a class I took in college, and the teacher gave us the bare bones of a basic web database script himself. I took what we did there and built on it, morphing it and forcing it to obey my will until it became the cyberpet database I was trying to build. Along the way I googled various bits of code I had trouble with to try and find a workable solution, but I already had the bare bones to go on. Hmm.

Well, now that you have done that and you have gone through the work, it should be easier now because you know the little bits and pieces that make it work, and make it not work. Maybe you could just look into your script and see what you find and give it to me? ;p
