Happy first day of October, everyone! Since this is my favorite month, here's to hoping you all enjoy the next 31 days as much as I plan to!

^_^_^ I always read vampire/ghost/werewolf themed books for the month of October. Decided to attack the Vampire Chronicles this time around since I have them and I've only read Interview. Also got the newest Sookie Stackhouse book, unfortunately no HBO so no True Blood Did anyone else read Vampire Diaries way back when Edwards and Bella weren't even an idea floating around in an author's head? I loved those books, though I'm kind of lukewarm towards the TV show. Somehow I love my vampires in books but rarely on TV or movies.

Vampires have really never done it for me, so I never really got into books about them. Funny, I was at Borders today looking for a new series to get into after finishing Anne Bishop's Black Jewels stories and the Sookie Stackhouse cover caught me eye because of the name. Anyone want to recommend a good fantasy or thriller series for me? I think I'm abandoning The Protector's War and all those Change novels. After at least a year of trying to get through it, I am finally giving up.

Hmm, I've enjoyed Michelle Sagara's Elantra series lately. But she can have an odd writing style at times, and you have to not mind being totally confused a lot of the time. And have to be willing to find answers to some questions posed in one book in another book later on in the series.
I loved Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell if you haven't read that one yet. Again, a rather complex book, but it is just the one book, all or most questions get answered ^_^
There is the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik, about how the world would be if dragons existed during Napoleonic times.
And if you liked Harry Potter you might like the Chrestomanci books. The same kind of weird and whimsical magic, without the teenage angsty scenes.
What kind of fantasy novels do you like best, maybe something more specific will come to mind.

Oh, the Naomi Novik books sound interesting. I am going to investigate them further.
Over the weekend, I picked up Monster by Lee Martinez, a funny novel about a Cryptobiological Containment and Rescue Service; Ice Land by Betsy Tobin, which I didn't start yet, a mix of mythology and fantasy; and Battle Royale, which is so far just as trashy and violent as I expected it to be. It's so infamous that I figured I'd better read it to know what all the fuss was coming out of Japan!
I had gone to the bookstore specifically to buy the third novel in the Dave Barry/Ridley Pearson Peter Pan prequel trilogy - which is AMAZING, by the way - but Borders didn't have it. Sad Dawby!

If you like an alternate telling of Peter Pan, then you'd probably like the Wicked series by Gregory Maguire. It's a retelling of the Wizard of Oz. I haven't read the books but I saw the Broadway musical which was very good ^_^
There's also that new book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The author found the original story kind of slow moving so decided to spice it up but having zombies pop out whenever things get a bit boring. I haven't read it, but I'm sort of intrigued, it sounds totally bizarre.

My sister was reading the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies book. I want to borrow it from her when I get the chance. I have started reading Wicked about four times now, but for some reason, I just can't get through it.
