"Yeah, remember what happened when we went straight last time?" she chuckled, turning to her friend. She stopped though, sensing that Garnet was sad. Briin'ken's tail drooped when she realized that she had mentioned Zelda without thinking. She padded over to her friend and gently draped a paw over her shoulder.
"I'm sorry Garnet.." she said softly, "but she'll be ok, you'll see."
She hoped to console her friend. Briin'ken patted the cat on the back and then she took a couple steps towards the left path, hoping Garnet felt a little bit better.

Garnet smiled slightly. "Thanks," she said. "Don't be sorry. There's nothing to be sorry for, anyways. I know we'll find her. We have to! She's counting on us." She jumped to her feet proudly. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" She grinned, feeling much better, even if it did take her only a few minutes to change her mood. She began to slowly walk down the left path, her senses more keen and alert now. "Thanks, though," she said again, "For being there for me." She felt cheesy, but it was okay. She was glad to have a good friend like Briin.

Briin'ken shook her head in wonder at Garnet's sudden mood swing. Glad that her friend was happy and eager to go again, she walked alongside the cat. She stretched her wings and peered down the pathway again.

Soon, the path had merged now to straight, and a right turn. The straight path went back into the maze, because you could see that it made a left turn as soon as you got to the corner. The path to the right, however, was easy to see down. Garnet walked into the center of the path and sat down, tilting her head inquisitively. There, in a small glade in the forest, was something that looked like a mysterious, beautiful cement birdbath. Only there were no birds in the birdbath-like thing. Just silence.

"Strange how Anocher's friends must take these labyrinths in order to find the Lady Zelda." The Wanderer said outloud. For it seemed to him that they in some sort of folklore where the heros must go through many trails of will in order to reach their goal.

Adrian nodded. "It is odd," he concurred ((whoa! look at my language spiffiness! *surprises self* ^_^)) as he began to walk down the path to the right. He actually thought about it for the first time, and was actually seeing the sense of the whole matter. Whoever took Zelda must either be very powerful, or so stupid. Taking her this far made him angry, and Garnet as well, and whoever made them angry about it would "need help". Soon, the path they were taking made a left turn on its own, then another right. And then they found themselves face-to-face with Briin, Garnet, Charon, and RoboMonkey.

Garnet, not noticing Adrian and the others yet, looked at the "birdbath" distractedly. "I don't know. It looks... wierd," she said quietly, "But I suppose drinking some wouldn't hurt... It looks harmless enough." She began to walk through the glade. The grass was abnormally green and soft on her feet. The sun shown through in a few places, giving it an alltogether pleasant appearance. But Garnet wasn't so easily swayed. Despite the appearance, again, she felt something foreboding about it. "Come on, Briin," she said, but realized she was so loud compared to the silence of the glade. She trotted up to the birdbath and put her paws on the edge, looking down into it. She raised her eyebrows. "I have a bad feeling about this place..."

"I don't know," Briin'ken answered, doubtfully, "what could be wrong with this place? It's like a dream."
She noticed that this clearing smelled the same as the scent on the hedge. Briin'ken felt like lying down and taking a nap, it was so peaceful. But she was still thirsty, so she trotted up to the strange birdbath. As she gazed into the liquid, she felt a wierd sensation come over her. The winged wolf shrugged it off and bent to take a drink.

"Careful!" Anocher said. "This place make Anocher uneasy. Might be a trap." His right arm twitched ready to grab Tempus at any moment.

"Ahh... Visitors, at long last..."
A voice, besides Anocher's, had broken the silence. A large eye watched Briin and Garnet from inside the "birdbath". It was almost like the eye was "one with the water", like a vision you'd get if you looked in.
Garnet's eyes widened and she held a paw under Briin's muzzle to stop her from drinking. She gaped at the large, ice blue eye. The eye positioned itself to look in Anocher's direction, even though it could not see over the cement walls of the pool.
"Traveller, you are right. In ways, this is a trap... and in ways, it is not. What are your names?"

Briin'ken's jaw dropped and she gaped into the eye, forgetting her manners. However, when a bit of spit began dripping down her muzzle she quickly recovered. The wolf snapped her mouth shut, but still stared incredulously at the birdbath. She had just about drank from it! She shuddered and replied, a little hesitantly, "I-I'm Briin'ken, the winged wolf."

The eye looked directly at Briin, studying her with a hard gaze.
"Mmm, yes, Briin. Of course."
"G-G-Garnet is my name," the cat said, her voice shaking. She backed away from the pool, standing next to Anocher now. "Hey! Glad you made it through safe. So did we... though we were almost killed with an ax," she informed him in a whisper.
"Silence, please. And the rest of you? Please, tell me your names. Then we shall proceed."
Garnet flattened her ears to her head in fear. It was a scary eye - at least to her. The eye looked in the direction of each of the members of the group in the glade, almost as if it could "see" them from outside the pool.

A low growl came from Anocher. He did not trust this eye creature but he answered his queastion. "Name be Anocher the Wanderer. Who are you?"
