Taking a cue...

Taking my cue from StickWitch, here's something I always want to know whenever I visit a new site or a new webworld or a new message board:

Where does everyone's web names come from? You know, how did you come up with your online name?

Dawby is a family nickname that one of my little sisters made up when she couldn't pronounce my real name, and it just stuck. Now my family and my friends all call me Dawby. I started using it as my online name when I was fifteen, though I've sometimes gone by Dawbia, the variation which my next sister down developed.

A friend of mine suggeted it. I was in a bad relationship, and when it was over, my friend said that I was a totally changed person. . .like a Phoenix, hence Phoenyx Fyre

Let's see...

I was writting the story of Allonia (yes, even way back when, I've been working & reworking that thing for forever) and in the story I'd decided that "silvanon" was Gavanian for unicorn. I really liked the sound of the word, so when I was deciding what to call myself on the web, that's what I picked.

I used my RL nickname when I first joined, but when I saw that everyone else had webnames and personas I made one for myself as well. Then I asked for help on naming wanted something that would go with a glow and light.

Lessa Lynn was the one who helped me come up with Luminaire. ^^

Although according to Dyani, it means Snow Hair. XD;; hehehe

I've just ALWAYS been Leafy XD;; since I was like four... and that was a LONG time ago... like, 18 years ago... *gags and shudders* I gave myself the nickname and it stuck. Even back in my AOL days, I was ALeafy XD;; that was like, back in 97'-98' and in high school a friend of mine figured out that Leafy spelled backwards is REALLY FRIKKEN COOL XD Yfael I love that XD Leafy fits me better than my actual name n_n;; plus it's a lot easier to pronounce lol.

when i first came online i was all horsey and chatroom and went by friesianxtb, but a) it's super long (( tho ironically only 3 letters longer than my real first name and only 2 letters longer than seraaches. XD )) and b) dude, c'mon. that's totally not a name. so i got into RPing through PBeMs, and was coming up with my first real persona *squee* and. . . . i misspelt the word searches. tho i still do even to this day!

as i was telling a friend the other day, i always answer to sera now, but sometimes i forget my real name. . . ^^; it's rather amusing.

I'd forget mine if I didn't keep my ID in my pocket XD;; even now if someone calls me by name I stare at them until it clicks XD

'Unyko' came from an anime cartoon I loved as a little girl.. Unico? ^.^ So when I came online and needed a new name, that was the one that came to mind, though it was taken when I tried to sign up for yahoo mail, and I like substituting 'y' for 'i' and 'k' for 'c', so hey, whynot! ^.^;

I have that cartoon! I loved it sooooooooo much T_T I need it on DVD, I'm afraid to watch it becasue the VHS might eat it, then I'd cry. Unico was soo cool, I thought your name had something to do with it XD

awwww ;_; If I ever get a DVD recorder, I'll make you a copy, I just hope you don't mind that it's taped from the Disney channel XD And the "call now!" number and advertisment pops up every once in a while XD And a few commercials from teh early 80's XD;;

Mine came from a combination of Anne MacCaffrey's Lessa and my middle name of Lynn. So I'm Lessa Lynn, or LL. I've also gone my Lady Amylthea, Vixen, Fox Fire, Faerie Fyre, Jessalyn, etc. for various persona names.

Now that I think about it though, my original chat nickname was Mickey_20 and I started out in Excite Chat and Minidragon Isle.

When I first entered the cyber-adoption world I noticed that everyone had online names. I was in a hurry to meet people so I just really quick thought up a random nonsense word that sounded neat.

I ended up with the name "Syra" which is pronounced "Sigh-ruh" not "Seer-rah" which is what everyone says. Mostly because when I was thinking how to spell it I didn't do it very well. It was just a random word I put together because I thought it sounded pretty. I've never changed my name though I have a split persona. Syra is the fantasy persona (think sword, dragons, and armor) and her split is Usorokoaemo (futuristic, sarcastic, and gun-toting), her more trendy modern sci-fi version. Uso actually has a meaning but I like to let people figure it out-it's pretty tricky.

Anyway, I didn't learn until about a year ago that Syra is a real word. It's ...crap, I don't remember what language. Irish maybe. Anyway, it's a word that means "acid" in another language. Interesting, isn't it?

Unyko~ I remember that cartoon too! I've always thought that's where you must have gotten your name from.

My name had a gradual evolution. When I started on webtv I picked the name Zebracorn out of a book on unicorns because I liked the word. One of my cousins took to calling me Zeb, and Indigo got added when I joined Yahoo - mom thought Zebracorn would be taken so I picked Indigo up off the back of another unicorn book. Later when I got started doing adoptions I shortened it to Indigo and now the name's stuck. ;D

I can't get away from this name! It's stuck on me! *tries to run away from name tag screaming* I would like to go back to Zeb one of these days. ^_^
