There was a thread about it...erm, forever ago. But I couldn't find it.
Anyways, I have impatiently waited for trailers for the movie, and I must say, I am terribly displeased with the cast. Eragon isn't at all right...
Though, I am as excited to see it as I was the new Pirates movie, and the newest Harry Potter, I don't think Eragon will be able to compete. It doesn't look that good. ::hugs the book:: Please let me be wrong.
Well, I'm still going to see it, and pray that I can ignore how Eragon is supposed to look, as well as Arya...and Brom. Maybe the trailers were misleading... ::crosses fingers::
I only just recently started reading Eldest. I kind of forgot about it, I read so many books that it just got pushed to the back of the shelf. I'm only about a fourth of the way done, and I want to finish it before I see the movie.

They even left out Ludo Bagman and Winky in the fourth movie supposedly. That's why I watch very few movies. *sigh* Wish they'd do it to the word. But that's just me. *sigh* </rant> XD

Huge movie...... Simon told me the set is incredible. But the screenwriter for Eragon also wrote the third Jurassic Park movie. *twitch* I think that says a lot right there. Oh, well. I'll definitely go see it.

Dragons, dinosaurs...no big difference right? Hope it turns out ok. ^.^;; I liked the book, can't say I loved it though. You could tell that he was young when he wrote it, and that it was his first book. Not saying I could have done better, but he was almost too wordy. Like when he first describes Arya with her raven-black hair, followed immediately by a sentence describing her midnight tresses. On the other hand, I was surprised how ruthlessly he kills off characters (for those of you who haven't read the book, I am NOT telling who). Even Lord of the Rings didn't kill of anyone too important, just Boromir who always came off as annoying anyway. It took Harry Potter till the sixth book to do it as well. Actually I'm curious how Saphira will look. I've seen a lot of CG dragons that were just plain ugly and made no sense proportionally. So what's wrong with Eldest? Leaves you hanging? I just started it, but I now have to read a book about .NET programming so I have to put it aside for a while. Should I let it wait a bit till the next one comes out so I can continue the story right away? *looks at Eragon advertisement at the top of the board* Ah, so that's what they'll all look like. Wonder what they'll do with the Ra'zac?

I think they did pretty well for Saphira's looks, from what the trailers show. Of course, trailers can sometimes be like those fake inedible burgers they use in Mcdonalds or sumsuch commercials- they only show the "good" parts, or whatever, to get people to come.
And while I'm often disappointed by book-based movies, I dutifully go see them because most of them aren't bad enough to make my eyes bleed, and some of them are even worth watching! I really like the Inheritance Trilogy despite its faults, and I hope the companies do well by it. (unlikely XP )
Chris might have really screwed himself by getting a movie deal so soon, though. I went to a book signing by Tamora Pierce and heard how awful Hollywood is for authors... they basically throw you a paltry sum, then own you and your characters for life. Tamora said that she would lose rights to ever use her main Tortallian characters again, unless she changed their names for some idiotic reason... Yeah. Like that would ever happen.
Tamora is a very funny woman, btw. At the book signing, she told us a story to the effect of, "This guy came to me with that GENEROUS offer...and I said a thing to him. He told me I was the most vulgar lady he knew. Then, he offered me more money... and I said a thing to him... it was a different thing than before, of course, because I'm a professional like that."

Humm might just be worth it to see them O.O;; heh my moms gonna take me Humm just wandered Yahoo movies, why does Saphira have feathered like wings O.o;; Like the scales look like feathers not Sails. And in every shot she looks pissed -.^;; but she does look fairly decent as far as computer animated dragons go.

"And in every shot she looks pissed "
Actually, Saphira seemed a bit surly and pissed most of the time in the book, so it matches *g* I kind of like the fact she had more attitude than Pernese dragons.
Yesterday I saw my first trailer, also saw the add for the video game. Not too many games out there where you get to play the dragon (or at least ride it) normally you have to kill them. I got both the Pern game and Drakkan because you got the be the dragon, at least some of the time.
Actually, I'm hoping Chris had some say in the movie. I saw the Gedwey Ignasia in the preview and it didn't look at all like it was described. Looked like he'd been branded rather than having a slight silver mark in the middle of his palm. There was no way one could hide a mark like that. Movie makers tend to take a story and put their own spin on it. Harry Potter did alright because Rowling had a say in what happened. LOTR did not too badly because fans have those books memorize and would have killed the movie makers had they strayed too far. But does Chris have the power to get his vision done right? I hope so...
Definitely going to see it though, hopefully next weekend.

I actually like non-traditional dragon wings... Like featheryish ones. More likely, they have leathery flaps that look like eathers rather than actual feathers, buut... I can't remember how Chris actually described Saphira's wings, so they might have taken liberties with that.
Yeah, Saphira wasn't at all serene... wise, yes. But not serene. She's kind of stubborn and protective and they are, after all, in the middle of a war here.

Ahh, I would have killed to go to a Tamora book signing, Axis. I've loved her books since I was about six. I've often wondered why she hadn't sold into making an Alanna movie, and I guess that's why. I hope they never do make any movies from her books, I love them too much.
Mmm, I don't think that they'll really show the Ra'zac, it's in Eldest that you really get a good description of them, or really find out what they are.
Speaking of Peirce, she also ruthlessly killed off a few characters in her later books, primarilly in the Trickster Series. I was shocked when Chris killed off so many people, the first book and a main charater is already gone. I was also amazed when I first started reading Eldest, he had no hestitation to dive into the action and kill off more important people.
It has so many twists and turns...like Oromis? Where'd he come from?

I am very excited, as I am going to the Toronto premier of Eragon next Thursday! The way I think of it is this: I just pretend I'm going to see any old movie - not a movie based on a book, just a movie. That way, I don't judge it based on how accurate it is to the book, just on whether or not it is a good movie. Twisted, yes. But it helps me be less disappointed. Teehee.

Mistay-- That's how I go into movies-based-on-books, as well. You know that they're never, ever going to match up to the book; how could they? Some are better than others, of course, and I also really hate when they change extremely important parts, but it's expected that some of the smaller details will be changed or condensed. However, sometimes, the filmmakers just do an absolutely horrible job. Take Anne Rice-- the movie version of Interview with the Vampire, while missing some things, was really well done, in my opinion. It's a good movie, both with the book, and on its own. However, Queen of the Damned, the movie? They didn't follow the book in any sense what-so-ever... but worse than that, it was just an absolutely horrible movie in general. Terrible acting, terribly disconnected plot-- if you're going to change the plot entirely, it should at least make sense! Honestly. The soundtrack is the only decent part. The Eragon trailer doesn't look the greatest, so I'm hoping that the actual movie is better. It can't possibly be as much of a travesty as the Queen of the Damned movie, but hopefully it'll be halfway decent! Hey, Dawby, we should go see it together! *stalkstalk*

All movies will always be missing big chunks from books because there simply isn't time to squish it all in. After all, it takes you longer than 2-3 hours to read a book, and that's without having to act out the scenes. So in that sense, movies will never measure up. That's why I try not to read a book just before I watch the movie. I purposely didn't reread the LOTR even though it must be over 10 years since I last read them.
But Saturnalia is right, some do a really good job, if they know the right parts to cut. The Harry Potter movies were good...though the last one was really crammed. I like Interview with the Vampire too.
Sometimes I like to see movie versions because I'm really really really bad at picturing people. In my mind they are all faceless. So I usually don't have a preset view of what the actors should look like. So the movies give me a face.

Jarassic park 2 (The lost world) OMFG that was messed up. They cut out some important parts and a WHOLE DINO! The coolest one, it was like a camelion and a smallerish TRex smashed in to one!
