Kalina eyed the steeped path, sized up Zefiryn, and said the first thing that came to mind.
"Why?"

Zefiryn turned with a fierce grin at the mix, "Because this way is more fun." That was, of course, how she managed to meet Gisele. . . taking the hardest path that presented itself and then getting lost. xD;;;;

The younger female's eyes rounded. She stared incredulously at Zefiryn. "More fun?" she repeated. "Are you serious?"
She fluttered her wings. "Maybe we can just fly," she suggested cautiously, still staring at the grey as though she'd just sprouted an extra, grinning head, and not giving any thought to the lack of clear flying space or her own relatively untried flight abilities.

(( we're on 4 pages. . . we're so cool! xD! ))
"Of course," Zefiryn retorted with another grin, unable to glance longingly towards the partially hidden path. She couldn't resist the challenge of the unknown. She swished her dark green tail tuft in excitement, though she turned back at Kalina's suggestion. "Well. . . I guess we could."
Gisele gave a low laugh, grinning at her friend, "You do need the practice."
The other Air gave a long-suffering sigh and nodded ruefully at her friend. "But I still don't have enough stamina."
The Eastern glanced at the hybrid with a gentle smile, "Ryn has only recently learned to fly."
"The Tactician was never around!" Zefiryn complained. "At least, not while I was home. One of the downfalls of being an Explorer."

"I can fly!" exclaimed Kalina, all four legs shooting out in excitement.
The little red scrunched her eyes shut, tensed her muscles, locked her legs, and flapped furiously. She rose several inches off the ground before bumping back to earth, her face purplish from forgetting to breathe.

The two gryvern stared at her for a long moment, before giving her quick congratulations. Gisele sent Zefiryn a look, with the conotation did you see that? The grey Air nodded solemnly; the hybrid used her wings to fly. . .
"Excellent," Zefiryn said with a smile. "Who taught you? Surely not your father. . . " Since, of course, Casimir distinctly lacked wings.

"II watched Mama," Kalina replied shyly, trying not to seem out of breath. "I practiced on my own."

"Well, you're doing quite well," Gisele complimented the youngster.
"It might be better to walk," Zefiryn suggested hopefully. "You know, so we don't wear ourselves out."
Green eyes flicked the leggy female. "You just don't want to practice. . . "
Ryn's golden gaze came back haughtily. "So wot if I don't?"
The Eastern couldn't help laughing in response at her friend's attitude. "You do need to practice."
"I know, I know," Zefiryn sighed. "Well. . . maybe we should go to the corner and then walk for a while after that?"

"I'll race you!" exclaimed Kalina eagerly, having regained most of her composure.
She was surprised a grown gryvern like Zefiryn hadn't learned to fly yet, but she was far too polite to point it out. Without waiting for an answer from the grey, she took off, wobbling just above the ground and looking for all the world like she would crash at any given moment.

A competition? Competitions always made life more fun! So she pushed off into the air after Kalina, and her progress wasn't much faster. She didn't quite have the hang of the movements needed and came dangerously close to slamming into trees or boulders or anything else in her immediate path. Gisele hid a laughter, leaping upwards into the air with the graceful ease of one born to it. She flew above the other two, keeping pace and trying to be certain neither came to true injury.
"You would think," she teased her comrade from a safe range. "That an Air would naturally succeed at flight."
"There's just as much air down here as there is up there," Zefiryn retorted as she pushed upwards from the ground again. "Someone needs to be good down here."
The Eastern gave another long laugh at her friend, though she did not argue the point.

Kalina, eyes narrowed, wings flapping wildly, did the inevitable.
Kalina crashed.
Into Zefiryn, no less.

The grey Air was nowhere near talented enough to avoid Kalina and not good enough to steady either of them. The two went down in a pile of limbs and flailing.
"Ahh!" Gisele gasped, pivoting swiftly to return to aid them. "Hold still! Stop moving!" They all had the killer, non retractable claws of a gryvern and neither Air was a Healer.
Zefiryn stilled at her friends call, hoping she hadn't injured Kalina even as she was fairly certain she'd gotten a long cut along her side. Nothing too deep, because it stung way too bad to be a bad wound.

Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, Kalina commanded herself as she attempted to untangle herself from the older gryvern and pull herself up off the ground.
She'd banged her nose, though, and the smarting pain from that specific location made her eyes water. One tear dribbled down her muzzle. She was so embarrassed at her mishap in front of two adults that she was growing to look up to that she barely noticed the blood oozing from a rent in her left wing until she extended both appendages to steady herself as she stood up.

Gisele was beside them in a moment, helping to untangle and disengage them from each other, concern for both making her mind frantic for a second. Soon the pair were completely separated and a green eye quickly scanned over the other Air. She noted only a few cuts that were bleeding, nothing too deep. Her attention swiftly moved to Kalina and true concern flared through her features, whiskers twitching with unease.
"Ease now, Kalina," the Eastern said calmly, swiftly smoothing her features to easy confidence. "How badly do you feel hurt?" Sans wings herself, the Air wasn't entirely certain wot such a cut would do. It seemed to be the biggest cut she had, though she had a slightly dazed expression. Gisele hoped that did not bespeak a concussion.

The little hybrid fluttered her wings, sending little droplets of blood flying. "Ouch!"
Kalina craned her neck around to look at the offending wing, but the movement was too fast and gave her a headache. "It doesn't hurt so much," she offered to Gisele.
