Samir felt his hide shudder at the gentle touch as a pleasant chill ran up his spine. It didn't quite tickle, something he didn't mind with all the time he spent with hatchlings and nestlings, and, for some reason, that made him want to shudder in that pleasant way some more.
He faltered slightly when he began to respond, working to wrench his mind back from his body's reaction. "I-I'm not sure," he admitted, voice light, if slightly tremulous. "I'm sure Sera knows. I can ask her and let you know. . . next time we meet?" The question in his voice was more with the hope that he'd have a chance to meet her again.

Sobriquet's eyes lit up at his offer of meeting again, her ears fanned with pleasure. She couldn't help but notice with mild amusement the way he trembled under her touch. "But, of course, we don't need to part ways just now?" There was a hint of sadness in her eyes, almost a longing that he just abandon any duties he might have had to stay with her instead. "Saying that we should meet again implies that we should separate. I've just barely learned your name!"

"Oh, no, fair lady," Samir cried immediately. "I don't mean for us to separate now." Perhaps never, thought that rebellious part of his mind. "I could not leave without learning more about your song," he hedged in easily. Mayhaps he could learn more about Sobriquet in the process. "It was beautiful, but I did not recognize any of it."

She lit up at the mention of her song, purring with unhidden delight. "My song!" she cried, looking like she wanted nothing more than to embrace the Gryvern. "You... really enjoyed it?" she settled once more, shaking to re-arrange her feathers, still beaming openly.
"I-It's really.. nothing special. It's a collection of languages.. I don't even know half the words, but they had the right sound and attitude to fit in." while she speaks, the purr continues to rise from within her, adding a relaxing background note.

"I very much enjoyed it," Samir was glad to reassure her. -Very- much so. And, with her explanation, he was even more impressed. "That is very clever of you," he couldn't help but praise her. "I could never manage something like that. It all flowed so well together." He had truly thought it was one song, or a number of songs, she had learned. "Were you improvising the entire time?"

"Mostly." After a moment, Sobriquet settled, folding her paws neatly in front of her, looking up at the Gryvern. "When the words fit together, the song writes itself, in a way. You say one thing, and the words to go with it flow in." she laughs softly, a musical sound.
"I'm so picky about the sound of the words, though. If I don't like the tone in one language, I switch over to another just so I can say the same thing." she was smiling again, head still tilted to the side, gazing... fondly? at Samir. He couldn't see it, but she wanted desperately to reach out and feel the short fur on his neck, run her beak through it to feel its softness.

Just switch to another language. . . . she would just switched to another language so she could say the same thing. The thought astounded as it delighted him. "How many languages do you know?" he asked curiously, trying to keep his awe from creeping too noticeably into his voice. He was beginning to feel a bit more like a big lummox in her presence. She was dainty, fragile, beautiful, obviously scholarly, intelligent, and well-learned, she could sing like the angels, and she had a gentle, mild-manner along with the most beautiful laugh he had ever heard. And he? He was a large gryvern with a horn glued to his forehead and a love of children. He fought and killed because that was his caste and he really had no place being beside this delicate creature.
Nevertheless. . . he wasn't leaving. At least not yet. He could feel her gaze on him, though he couldn't read it, and he was giving as good as he got. He couldn't stand the thought of all that beautiful being stained even symbolically with crimson, but he also couldn't pull himself away. Not yet. In just a few minutes.

"Many. More than I could ever name.." she sighed, leaning slightly against his side, closing her eyes. She was small beside him, almost frail beneath the feathery tufts. Her tail wrapped around her body, finding its way around one of his forelimbs in the process. "I've traveled far in my life, Samir. I've learned.. through necessity." she smiled at him again, obviously unsure of whether or not she should continue.
She saw his hesitation and the change in his posture as he questioned herself, and her eyes seemed to scan his for anything she could recognize. "I-Is everything alright?" fearing that she had made him overly nervous, she pulled her tail away, keeping it tucked securely between her forelegs.

Her retreat brought an immediate protest through his body, it just seemed so wrong for her to not be near, to not have that long, fluffy tail brushing his side or leg. "Yes!" he replied firmly, before flushing slightly and softening his tone. "I was. . . Well. " Samir didn't think she'd laugh but he didn't think he could stand false assurances from her. . . . He would not force her to such.
"I was just struck," he continued carefully. "With how different our backgrounds are. I'm not well-traveled. Besides our Home Reality, Hawkings Crest, and here, I have gone nowhere." He gave a small, sortof helpless looking shrug, despite his large size. He'd never regretted his 'homebody' nature; he enjoyed staying near home and watching the kiddoes. But for a moment he felt positively provinicial beside Sobriquet. He hesitated a longer moment before adding, "I hope that will not affect our ability to be friends?"

Her eyes softened as he spoke, she could clearly see his urgency and she felt all too well the little flutter in her already pounding heart. She saw his inner recoil at her withdrawl, and moved a little closer instinctively. She didn't fully know what to think of this Gryvern, other than that, well.. She liked him. She truely liked him, a gut instinct that nagged at her to spend as much time with him as was physically possible for her to do.
"Why ever would it?" she murmured, lightly bumping her head to his chest, feathers fanned with pleasure.

The tension eased out of him in relief and he sent her a gentle smile smile full of pleasure and longing. "I just wasn't certain," he replied softly. "You might not care to spend time with a backwards someone like me." Despite his easier demeanour, the thought that she might suddenly change her mind, though it didn't seem to be something she would do, still lingered in his mind. "You seem well equipped to find more sophisticated company."

A low rumble of a purr rose from her chest, the vibrations travelling from her head into his neck. It was.. an oddly soothing sound and he might find it even more reassuring than even her words. "Not at all.." she whispered. "Sophisticated and good are not often synonymous. I believe I have found the best possible company, in fact."
Sobriquet looked up at him, eyes closed with pleasure in the Gryphon equivalent of a wide, satisfied smile.

Samir felt a slight thrill at the look, knowing that he was grinning back, perhaps like a fool, but he certainly didn't care. She thought -he- was the best sort of company? His tail twitched with pleasure at the compliment and he fell silent for a time in contentment.
He was surprised by his sudden, strong attachment to Sobriquet; it was rather unusual for him. He usually didn't connect with adults well; generally only the younglings. He had yet to find the young of a species he didn't seem to just connect with, but, again, he was not well-traveled.

The little Gryphon seemed content to say nothing, simply moving to sit beside the larger Gryvern. She found herself intrigued by his paws and by the way he held himself, looking so.. noble. She was most fascinated, though, by the shape of his ears. Her eyes closed in a moment, thoughtful, before looking up at his face once more.
"It's.. funny, Samir." she said quietly, voice a mere undertone of what it had been before. The sudden change in her voice made her seem even smaller, if that was possible.

Dark eyes slipped down to meet her pale ones with curiousity and care. "Wot's funny, Sobriquet?" He loved the sound of her voice, how she pronounced his name. And he loved the taste of her name on his tongue. He wondered why her voice softened so abruptly, and he was concerned even as he enjoyed her conversation.
