She had climbed into the topmost branches of the magnolia tree, her pale eyes wide to take in the entire landscape. She looked almost like one of the large pale flowers herself, her face surrounded by feathery plumes that moved softly in the breeze. She was a puzzling sight to most of the wildlife that passed by, the first of her kind to wander into the Orchard. Little did those animals realize that she was also a rarity of her own kind, the feathery crests covering her body and lack of fur nearly unheard of in her species. Almost odder was her shoulders, adorned with feathery plumes but lacking any evidence of wings. Enthralled by all that surrounded her, the small gryphon began to sing, a soft, chirping and purring song. Her voice was hauntingly soft, some of the notes just off key enough to give her song a lilting quality. She was completely absorbed, eyes closed peacefully.

A pale blue and white form has also come to the Orchard, though this isn't his first visit. The muteness of his colours are contrasted vibrantly by the deep red cloak draped across his long, lean form as well as the shining black hair pulled in a tight designs. A muted golden horn rises gracefully from his forehead, but it's not a natural acquisition, though that may be hard to tell for it has been magically soldered into place. Samir gave a low sigh as he worked his way through the Orchard. He did enjoy his time here, but it tended to wear him out slightly. Especially last time. He paused for a moment to reflect on his last trip. There had been the showdown with Bismark and then his quirky new friend. . . . He shook his head slightly; he didn't want to think too closely about those adventures just now. So he continued to wander slowly through the woods, and then, suddenly, the gentle sound of singing caught a curved ear. He blinked dark eyes and turned to loft them slightly to listen. It was soft and beautiful, but still oddly haunting. He hesitated only a moment before turning towards and moving slowly towards its origination. He tilted his head to look up towards the top of the tree he thought it came from, but he couldn't immediately spot anything amidst the gentle swaying of flowers and leaves. crest.vagueinsanity.net/img/gry/013ma.gif

Her song was growing in volume, occasional word mixing with the birdsong, flowing from language to language without a second thought. It was odd, the shifts occuring so seamlessly that one would hardly notice when the small gryphon stopped speaking an understood language in favor of something more exotic. It was all understood, through tone and the movement of the notes.
A sudden gust of wind blew with force, causing the small white form to shift, clinging desperately to the tree. Her feathers fanned in all directions, catching the sun and shining as if crying, 'I am here!'. Her song was broken in that moment, replaced with soft laughter. The ivory female would appear in the leaves, hiding behind the leaves once more when the tree settled once more. She did not notice the gryvern, for she was much too absorbed in this wonderful place she had found. As such, she remained in her high perch rather than jumping down to greet the possible new companion.

Samir's dark eyes were immediately caught by the bright flash of light and he tilted his head in surprise as the gryphon seemed almost to just appear from nowhere in her high perch above. His breath caught in his throat for a long moment as she seemed suspended in the air and he thought for sure she would fall. Her tinking laughter, however, reassured him that all was well with her, if not for his heart.
"Perhaps that's a bit dangerous?" he called upwards. She seemed so small; was she a youngling?

"Perhaps!" she called out, startled for just a moment by the appearance of the other, glancing down at him. For all the world, it appeared that she was smiling (impossible as it seems, until one noticed the shine in her eyes). Her heart was still pounding, however, and she knew that the mysterious creature was right. "But how do I know I can trust you when I reach the ground? I'm just as lacking in defence down there as I am up here!"
Her carefree attitude and small stature might lead initial thoughts to youth, however; the way she carried herself and the spark in her eyes reveiled that she was not so young as one might assume. She looked the gryvern over, obviously intrigued.

His ears flicked back in slight amusement, "Well, I could come up there, but I'd rather everyone be safe on the ground. You are safe from me, m'lady." He wasn't certain why, but he felt a sudden protectiveness towards the female he didn't even know. And he was anxious that she realize he wouldn't press her in pain or any other way. "I can retreat a distance, if you would prefer?"

Her feathers fluffed in mild amusement as she slowly picked her way down through the branches, finally leaping the last few feet to land gracefully near the blue male. "There will be no need for that." she purred, head cocked curiously to the side. "I do wonder, however.." she trailed off, eyes still inquisitive, though something had prevented her from finishing her statement. She was a very strange creature, almost fully white, but showing none of the other signs of being an albino.

He watched her descent with careful closeness to be sure she not come tumbling down too quickly or unsafely. He gave a small, relieved sigh when she reached the ground without trouble. He gave a careful smile and tilted his head in return. "You wonder?" he pressed gently. From here it was evident she was no hatchling, but he suddenly felt a large and rather clumsy giant beside her. He was, perhaps, a little tall for a gryvern, but not overly so. She just seemed so. . . delicate and fragile.

"If it's not rude to ask," she continues after a moment, head down but eyes still locked on, what to her, was a fascinating and wonderful creature. "I wonder.. what, exactly, are you? I've met Tsume, Naa, Paint.. many other species, but I have never encountered something so graceful as you."
She sat, curling her tail around her feet, the feathers at the end fanning. Every time her tail twitched languidly, that fan covered her face in an almost flirtatious manner. The grin was still evident in her oddly pale eyes, and at a distance, he would notice that all of her emotions showed in her movements and her eyes, as well as the resting position of those fluffy, fluffy feathers.

Graceful? He blinked in surprise. Him? He'd never been called graceful before! The thought pleased him and his head came up slightly in pleasure before he bowed slightly to her. "Certainly not rude. I am a Gryvern." He pronounced this with the innate pride of his species. "I believe I've seen others like you at Timekeeper," he watched her with a strange degree of fascination. He rather wanted to pet her and see if she was as soft as she appeared, but knew that wouldn't be polite. She seemed to speak with her entire being and not just her words; he found it wonderful.

Her entire body appeared to light up with his response. "Gryvern," she repeated, beak making a soft clicking sound at the end, experimentally rolling the "r" in the word. It was almost as if she was tasting the word, like a wine connoseur testing the nose and legs of a fine drink. Appearing as if the word passed her test, she stretched, standing once more.
"I am not nearly so interesting, simply Gryphon." after a moment, a cunning shine entered her eye. "Though if I may say so myself, I find the similarities between us on a name-basis to be striking. On a personal level, I am known as Sobriquet."

"Sobriquet," he didn't even realize he'd echoed her. His dark gaze roved briefly across her, thinking the simple elegance of the word fit her very well. "Wot a beautiful name. Does it mean something?"
He knew his own name meant something, but he didn't recall wot, though Sera had apparently looked it up once. He was too interested in her response to realize he didn't immediately introduce himself back.

Sobriquet hesitated, looking at her paws. "Sobriquet.. it is a word used to describe an assumed name." She shook her head, feathers fluffing out before laying flat across her skin once again. "I find it odd, myself, but it has a nice sound to it. I suppose that's all we can hope for in a name, right?"
Her feathery "ears" lifted, and she looked once more at the Gryvern. Something about him seemed so.. strong. She wanted to know more about him at once, but felt also that information would come in time. For now, however, only one thing was on her mind. "And might I inquire as to your name?" her eyes glimmered with faint amusement.

A description of an assumed name. . . it was an odd choice for oneself, but, at the same time, he could think naught but it added to her mysteriousness. He was intrigued by her and while he felt as though he was hanging on her every word, it also seemed as though they were lost in a sea of sight, where nothing mattered but being able to see her.
Her question pulled him from the inward haze and a hint of red tipped his cheekbones for a moment before he swooped his head down in a low bow, hoping he didn't look silly even as he tried hide his embarrasment. "Excuse my lax," he exclaimed softly. "I am Samir." He rose again, rising up to his proud pose yet again. "It is an honour and a pleasure to make your acquaintance." And hopefully more, some inward part of him cried, but he shushed it for now.

"Ah, an elegant name..." She smiles to herself, almost purring absently. "Well suited to one such as yourself." Gently, almost teasingly, she brushes the long feathers on her tail across his side, in what could be interperted as a sort of handshake. She was intrigued by this light blue (and handsome) creature, and she struggled hard to keep herself from withdrawing into her usual shy attidude. This one, she was sure she could make the effort to keep in communication with. This one.. this one sent a shiver down her spine. She could not let her shyness chase him away.
"As you know the meaning of my name, would you care to divulge any meaning behind yours?" she sits once more, head inclined curiously to the side, feathery ears lifted high with curiousity.
